Elections cost money
A by-election means another publicly funded election, additional administration, staffing, venues, printing, security and disruption.
Doing nothing changes nothing.
The electoral system only records votes that are actually cast.
Not voting is invisible in the result
Staying at home may feel like a protest, but the result cannot distinguish between somebody deliberately refusing to vote and somebody who simply did not take part.
A minority can still determine the result
If large numbers of dissatisfied people do not vote, somebody can win without receiving the support of a majority of registered electors.
Protest votes remain separate votes
Under first-past-the-post, votes for different candidates remain separate. They are not combined after the election.

If a Recall Petition is triggered, Clacton should be ready.
A Recall Petition only happens when one of the legal recall conditions is met and the official process is opened. If that happens, at least 10% of eligible registered electors must validly sign for the seat to become vacant.

Eligible constituents then have a limited period in which they can choose whether to sign.

If at least 10% validly sign, the seat becomes vacant and a by-election follows.
